Post-Care Tuition Waiver Program

We understand that financial difficulties can impede your university success. We also recognize that spending time in the Nova Scotia child welfare system can restrict your access to education and add financial burdens. We are here to help eliminate these barriers.

Eligibility

  • You have lived in care for a minimum of one year (consecutive or accumulated) in the Nova Scotia child welfare system, Mi’kmaw Family and Children’s Services of Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Home for Colored Children, or have received Youth Services between the ages of 16-18 via signed agreement, as defined by Section 19 of the Children and Family Services Act.
  • You have been accepted to Acadia or are planning to enroll in a program with tuition and associated fees in the upcoming academic year
  • You have financial need
  • You are pursuing your first undergraduate credential (e.g. diploma or degree)
  • You are not eligible for nor currently receiving the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services Educational Bursary Program for Children in Care or the Post-Care and Custody Agreement
  • You will provide a signed verification of eligibility form completed by the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services Disclosure Program.
  • You are willing to meet with a representative from Student Life for an orientation to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ
  • You are willing to meet with an academic advisor to review your educational goals and preparedness

You must also submit verification of past child welfare involvement to ensure eligibility. Applicants must first seek verification by contacting the Disclosure Program:

Deadline

The deadline for the 2024-2025 academic year is June 1, 2024. Applications received after June 1 will be assessed on a case-by-case basis in 2024 only.
